Which Test Should You Take?
- Take IELTS if you're applying primarily to UK, Australian, or Irish institutions, or if you're comfortable with a face-to-face speaking test
- Take PTE if you get nervous in speaking tests with examiners, you want fast results, or you've previously scored lower than expected on IELTS
- Take TOEFL if you're primarily targeting US institutions or are confident in formal academic writing
Many students take one test, don't achieve their target score, and then try a different test — often with better results. There's no penalty for switching.
